St. Cyril and Methodius Vice Province, Sečovce, Slovakia

The Basilian Sisters arrived in Prešov, Slovakia, from Stanislav (Ukraine) in 1922, invited by Rev. Dr. Mikuláš Rusnák. They opened a girls’ dormitory and expanded to towns like Medzilaborce, Sečovce, Svidník, and Stropkov, focusing on education and youth formation. In 1945, they began their ministry among Slovak-speaking Greek Catholics in Sečovce. Their work was supported by the Basilian Fathers.

In 1950, under communist persecution, the Sisters were arrested and sent to forced labor camps in the Czech Republic. Despite harsh conditions, they remained faithful, and vocations grew during the “Dubček era”. After communism fell in 1989, the Sisters returned to Slovakia, reopening missions in Trebišov and Sečovce. With help from U.S. Basilian Sisters, they rewrote their constitutions. In 1994, they became the Delegature of St. Cyril and Methodius and were elevated to a Vice Province in 2001.

Today, they  serve across Slovakia, continuing their mission of faith and service.
